Introduction

The aim is to produce a hardware simulation of the Bendix/King KT 76C TSO
Transponder and KN 62A DME.
Front Panel Design
In order to reduce cost and simplify construction and
mounting, both units are to be built using a single front panel. The panel was
designed using Front Panel Designer and fabricated by Schaeffer AG in Germany.

Two red translucent windows were fabricated to both hide the 7 segment
displays and also provide the various information legends.

The back of the front panel was recessed to mount the windows.

The displays, LEDs, push button switches, rotary switch,
slide switches and rotary encoder are mounted on veroboard.

The assembly is attached to the back of the front panel
using 6mm high pillars screwed into the reverse side of the front panel.
